Our Church

Just as Jesus Christ came “not to be ministered unto, but to minister...” we accept our responsibility to reach out in evangelistic service to others. The heartbeat of our church is for the unsaved! We faithfully preach the gospel holding steadfastly to Baptist doctrine taught in the King James Bible and support missionary endeavors around the world through prayer and financial giving. Mountain View Baptist Church is an old-fashioned independent Baptist church conveniently located in the upstate of South Carolina off Interstate 85 in the historic town of Cowpens.

Our History

Mountain View Baptist Church has the remarkable
testimony of having only two pastors in the last sixty years.
Jimmy Robbins faithfully pastored the church for 40 years. Known as a “son of thunder”, he was devoted to the Word of God, old-fashioned Bible preaching, the church, and his family. He had the anointing of God on his life and was instrumental in bringing multitudes into the family of God. He believed and practiced what he preached. He was indeed a Man of God! Through his ministry the present sanctuary was constructed and the Christian school established. On Sunday morning, July 28, 2002, Dr. Robbins retired. At the conclusion of the 40th anniversary service, following the leadership of Dr. Robbins and recommendation of the church deacons, the congregation unanimously voted Steven Griffith in as the new pastor. With God’s continued blessing and guidance, the church has maintained an appreciation for the past and developed a vision for the future.

His pastoral experience began at age 21 and includes pastoring Eastatoe Baptist Church in Sunset, South Carolina for one year; four years at Open Door Baptist Church-Easley, South Carolina and sixteen years at Galilee Baptist Church, Monroe, North Carolina. Serving at Mountain View Baptist Church from 2002 - present. Pastor Steven Griffith and wife Lynne have been married since 1983. They have four adult children, Tiffany, Derek, Phillip, and Bethany, who are all, along with their spouses, active members of MVBC. Pastor and Mrs. Lynne are also blessed to have nine precious grandchildren. The Pastor and his family are actively involved in the service of the Lord; they are faithful in their church attendance and are joyfully knit together with the congregation. Following the Pastor’s direction the church continues to move forward attracting new believers, evangelizing the unsaved and training youth to serve Christ. Believing the church should minister to everyone, the pastor strives to welcome any and all visitors.

Sunday School

Sunday school classes for all ages offers dedicated teachers presenting scriptural truth on a weekly basis. Classes range from toddlers to senior adults. The Bible and sound Christian literature form the basis of all instruction. A nursery is available for our youngest members. Frequent class “get-togethers” provide wholesome fellowship and help to form lasting friendships.

Music Ministry

Adult and youth choirs welcome those who enjoy singing. Many members of the congregation sing in a variety of trios, quartets and special groups. Instrumentalists accompany our singers. Those with musical talents are encouraged to participate.

Sowers & Reapers Visitation

Is a church-wide evangelistic outreach ministry. Every second Saturday from April until November our members are visiting neighborhoods in ministry sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Youth Ministries

The youth of the church regularly attend various meetings and camps. Adult chaperoning and supervision are an integral part of any youth activity. Christian activities and fellowship are enjoyed in our gymnasium and on our baseball field. Special “youth revivals” are held specifically to minister to the teenagers. Our youth are challenged to live dedicated Christian lives.

Senior Adult Ministries

Mindful of advancing age and possible loneliness, we bring our seniors together for times of fellowship, shopping, restaurant excursions and church meetings. The senior adults who are physically able are involved in everything at Mountain View.

World-Wide Missions

Believing the ‘great commission’, Matthew 28:18-20 and Acts 1:8, is given to the church, we endeavor to send the gospel around the world. Through prayer and consistent financial giving, we support home and foreign missions.

Safety Team

We live in an unpredictable and sometimes volatile world. We have a trained security/safety detail who diligently serve at every church gathering to ensure the safety and security of each attendee.

June Jubilee

June Jubilee-An annual meeting held the first of June. Old-fashioned worship, singing and preaching for approximately 2 1/2 days. Special guest preachers and guests from many places attend.
